Maternity leave joing BMC Mumbai
Hi All,
My wife has got job in Brihn Mumbai Corporaton(BMC) in maharashtra. She is having 3 years of probation. Around December 15, 2011 she will be joining. Now in NOV 2011 she is 2 months pregnent. Will she get maternity leave starting from April?Can she get LWP?Shall I inform them about the pregnency?What will happen if she will join and not inform to her reporting person or while joining the BMC?Thanks in Advance.....Ram

Many companies especially govt ones are lenient rules for maternity benefit. As per maternity benefit act minimum 80 working days(including holidays) is required for this benefit. But BMC may not have even this limit.

I know one state govt(Rajasthan) rules which does not allow pregnant women to join govt collect - they do medical tests . First consult doctor whether your wife can feign ignorance about pregnancy issue of two months. Can it be reduced to 1 month?

Do it only if they are not doing medical tests. Even if they are doing, better bribe government hospital doctor for not finding pregnancy. They are 99.9% corrupt, and will happily do it for you.
But have ready solid reason when your wife discloses in office say after a week or so.

PS: We believe this is sex inequality issue of denying joining for pregnant women just because they are women. We're basically against any such rules which can put women at disadvantage.
