Naina Kapur - our first women rights protagonist
We want to introduce you all a premier women's rights protagonist Ms. Naina Kapur who is very beautiful by her looks at the same time has even more beautiful mind and thoughts as to how to work for equality rights for women in India.

A Lawyer by profession with over 25 years national and international experience in gender equality issues including violence against women, test case litigation, law reform, policy–making, research and documentation judicial equality education.

Specific expertise in Sexual Harassment at work- As lead instructing counsel, she framed and presented a public interest litigation before the Supreme Court of India resulting in the 1997 Vishaka Guidelines – legally binding directions on workplace sexual harassment. She currently acts as a legal consultant on the diverse issues and committee cases emerging from workplace sexual harassment for public and private sectors.


Some Important Works


  1. Design and delivery of rural level interventions for women’s rights and VAW across India during her early professional years in the 80’s
  2. Director of Sakshi (Ngo) from 1993-2007 focusing on creative equality education and leadership development for judges and community leaders, sexuality and life awareness programs for school systems and sexual harassment and healthy workplace education for diverse organisations/institutions.
  3. Founder & Co-Chairperson of the Asia-Pacific Advisory Forum on Judicial Education on Equality Issues resulting in an innovative autonomous ngo/judge collaboration for design and delivery of gender equality education for judges in South Asia. The program was recognised as Best Practice Program by Unifem in 2002
  4. Co-ordinator of gender equality and leadership education in schools of law and social work.
  5. Consultant to private/public workplaces and colleges for developing workplace specific policies and education on sexual harassment, healthy workplaces and equality rights.
  6. In addition to Vishaka, acting as lead counsel in SAKSHI vs. UOI, a test case PIL on re-interpreting existing rape laws and establishing landmark child friendly procedures for child sexual abuse cases in 2004.
