Maternity leave for contract employees in Lady Hardinge Medical College - indiandoc - 03-05-2013 07:38 PM

Dear Admin,
I am working as an Assistant Professor (on contract) in Lady Hardinge Medical College for past 6 months. My contract is of one year extendable to two years. I am currently pregnant (2nd child). I have been verbally informed by the administration that I am not eligible for maternity leave as per CCS rules for contract employees. Is that correct?
The jobs that are being advertised for the past 4-5 years are only contract jobs and no regular posts have been advertised for a while. Does that not make the government liable to give the same benefits to contract employees as regular employees?
What do you think I should do as I am contemplating resigning if I don't get any leaves.

I've talked about this with Mr. S. D. Puri who is also author of one of maternity benefit act books listed here. He said it'd depend on the organization's rules. So you should check the rules, ask for interpretation and clarify.
